Secretary of State: Blockgate decision “absolutely” before election day.
So, I asked Secretary of State spokesman James Flores whether the office will have a decision on Jerome Block Jr’s by election day. His answer:
“Absolutely.”
I also spoke with the writer responsible for the three-sentence comment about Block’s trip to the movies. It turns out the writer was at the movies herself with a girlfriend (the ABBA film, Mama Mia, so be specific), and that girlfriend happens to work at the PRC. Block and the friend recognized each other in the lobby… the writer never spoke to Block.
“I have stalked Julia Roberts,” the writer says, tongue-in-cheek, “but never a politician.”
Meanwhile, Dan Herrera, an editor at the Albuquerque Journal, stands by his paper’s reporting on Block’s misrepresentation of his educational background. Block claims in his new ad: “I have repeatedly requested the newspaper questionnaire they claim to be relying on for that false information. They have repeatedly ignored my request.”
Herrera, with the questionnaire in hand, says that Block sent his answers in via email on May 6. Herrera confirms that Block asked for a copy of his questionnaire back, but, citing standard journalistic ethics, Herrera says the Journal never gives up its notes. He added that since it was sent by e-mail Block most certainly has a copy on his computer.
One more thing: Block has finally updated his web site, citing these endorsements (all of which we will be fact-checking):
League of United Latin American Citizens
New Mexico Association of Builders and Contractors
Independent Brotherhood of Electrical Workers [sic]
Fraternal Order of Police.
El Norteno Magazine
Pueblo of Pojoaque
Many local elected officials
UPDATED: IBEW confirms they endorsed Block a little more than a month ago. The Fraternal Order of Police say they endorsed Block in March during the primary–that endorsement stands unless one of the board members brings it up during its meeting next week. HOWEVER, it’s the INTERNATIONAL Brotherhood, not the “Independent.”

I see Jerome claims, on his updated web site, that he will “Hold Large Corporations Responable to their committment to New Mexicans.”
Can we expect a man to enforce responsible commitments of large corporations when he can’t spell the word with spell check?
And what’s the FOP doing endorsing someone under investigation by the AG? Did they even speak with Lass before endorsing? Maybe they are endorsing Block because they believe that, as a PRC commissioner, Block will give law enforcement agencies more work. Given recent developments, it seems a reasonable assumption.
